Nikki Glaser in Talks to Host ‘SNL’ After Roasting Tom Brady & Releasing New Show

Nikki Glaser was nominated for her first Emmy in July for her HBO special Someday You’ll Die. That day, she shared with Deadline her aspirations to build on the show’s success and her notable appearance at The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady. Specifically, she expressed a desire to work with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, sit in a VIP box for a Taylor Swift show, and host SNL.

Less than a month later, it appears one of those dreams is on the verge of coming true. Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Television: The Nominees event, Glaser mentioned there’s “interest” from the NBC late-night show. “I think I would kill it,” she confidently stated.

Glaser, who has been in comedy for over 20 years, recognizes the importance of seizing this moment. She was a standout in Netflix’s largest-ever live event, and her stand-up special broke records for HBO and Max.

“I just got done working so hard on the special and the roast, and I kind of want a break, but this put so much attention on me that more stuff is coming in, and you just got to strike while the iron, and I, am hot,” Glaser said.

The timely release of Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die was impeccable, coming less than a week after the Brady roast, where she was undeniably the breakout star with her signature roast humor targeting the NFL icon.

“I wish I could say that I planned it that way because I wish I had that much foresight and attention to detail with my career,” Glaser admitted. “I wish I was a little bit more Taylor Swifty and masterminding things. It was absolutely coincidental, and honestly, the special got pushed because I was just having such a hard time editing it, and that was such a laborious process.”

Guy Harding received a nomination in the Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming category for his work on the special.

Recorded in December in front of a sold-out audience at the Moore Theater in Seattle, Someday You’ll Die sees Glaser diving into a variety of topics, including why she doesn’t want kids, the harsh realities of aging, her sexual fantasies, and plans for her own death.

Glaser is up against Billy Joel’s The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden, Dave Chappelle’s The Dreamer, Dick Van Dyke’s 98 Years of Magic, and Trevor Noah’s Where Was I in the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category at this year’s Emmys.

“I couldn’t ask for a better grouping of people, and it feels pretty nice to be the only woman there,” she said. “There [are fewer] female comics than male comics. We all know that. It just feels cool to be nominated. That phrase really rings true. Whether I win or not, I’m just like, ‘I’m Emmy nominated,’ and that’s really what you want.”
