Nine Inch Nails to Score Disney’s ‘Tron: Ares’ Soundtrack

Nine Inch Nails, led by Trent Reznor, is composing the score for Disney’s Tron: Ares , as announced at D23.

The reveal happened during a first-look at the sci-fi movie featuring Jared Leto, directed by Joachim Ronning. The preview included some snippets of the score work done so far. Given the high bar set by Daft Punk’s genre-defining score for Tron: Legacy , expectations for this new installment are monumental.

Reznor formed Nine Inch Nails (NIN) in the late 1980s as an industrial hard rock band. Although Reznor was the primary composer and instrumentalist for the albums, he assembled rotating members while touring. The band significantly influenced the 1990s music scene, earning several Grammy nominations and winning awards for songs like “Wish” and “Happiness in Slavery.”

Reznor’s transition into film scoring began in 2010 when he partnered with Atticus Ross for David Fincher’s The Social Network . This marked the beginning of a lasting collaboration that extended through numerous Fincher films. Recently, the duo composed for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Challengers .

Ross officially became a member of NIN in 2016. When the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, it included six current and former members: Ross, Robin Finck, Chris Vrenna, Danny Lohner, Ilan Rubin, and Alessandro Cortini.

Jeff Bridges, a star of the original 1982 Tron, who returns for this installment, remarked, “Technology and AI are omnipresent in our lives. What a perfect time to revisit this world. Or, have this world visit us, because that’s what happens in this movie.”
