Noel Gallagher Admits Liam Excels Over Him in This One Area

The Gallagher brothers Noel and Liam have long epitomized sibling rivalry, particularly notable during their time with Oasis. Despite their tumultuous relationship, Noel recently offered some surprisingly positive reflections on his brother’s contributions to the band.

Oasis’ dynamic was always intriguing, with Noel writing the songs and Liam typically taking on the vocal duties. At times, Noel had to fill in for Liam during live performances, showcasing his own capabilities as a frontman. Post-Oasis, Noel has pursued a successful solo career.

Noel Gallagher expressed his appreciation for Liam’s talent ahead of the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ Definitely Maybe album. In an interview with journalist John Robb at Manchester’s Sifter Records, Noel acknowledged the unique qualities Liam brought to the band. He even went as far as saying Liam’s vocal prowess was superior to his own.

“I can’t sing ‘Slide Away,’ ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol,’ ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star,’ and ‘Columbia’,’” Noel admitted, referring to the songs Liam fronted. “I mean, I can do it, but it’s not the same. It’s the delivery, the tone of his voice, and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.”

Noel humorously compared their singing styles, saying, “Liam’s is a shot of tequila, right, and mine’s half a Guinness. Mine’s half a Guinness on a Tuesday. It’s alright. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a fucking Friday night.”

Discussing one of their major hits, “Supersonic,” Noel noted, “I sing ‘Supersonic’ with the same melody, the same words, the same inflections, but when he sings it, it’s a bit more menacing. When I would sing a song, it would sound good; when he would sing it, it would sound great.”

Noel further praised Liam’s recent work, stating, “What he did was inspire the kids at the front to do something, do you know what I mean? ‘If he can do it, I can do it’. And he’s still doing that now.”

Despite Noel’s respectful tone, an Oasis reunion has yet to materialize. Liam Gallagher played shows earlier this year, celebrating the Definitely Maybe album anniversary, even performing songs that Noel traditionally sang live.

Leading up to these shows, the brothers had a public back-and-forth about a possible reunion. Noel challenged Liam to contact him, but Liam later informed a fan on the X social media platform that Noel had declined the invitation to reunite Oasis.

Oasis bandmate Andy Bell hinted on social media that a reunion could still happen, to which Liam responded that Bell should not be raising false hopes. He told another fan, “It’s over. We must all really move [on] for our own mental health.”

Since the split, Noel Gallagher has released four studio albums with his band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Liam Gallagher initially teamed up with the remaining Oasis members in Beady Eye before embarking on his solo career. Liam has produced three solo studio albums.
