Oasis’s 2024 Appeal Extends Beyond Nostalgia

Next year, Oasis will take the stage once again after being absent for several years. For those who have been closely following the often tumultuous relationship between the Gallagher brothers, this might come as a surprise. However, for Oasis fans outside the U.K. and Ireland, the question of an expanded tour remains unresolved. Yet, regardless of whether you’re an ardent Oasis fan thrilled about their comeback or someone indifferent to the news, you might be viewing the band’s current appeal from the wrong perspective.

Remarkably, there are numerous individuals eager to see Oasis in the 2020s whose enthusiasm has nothing to do with reliving their youth. In a new article for The Quietus, Anna Doble, who has extensively covered music from the 1990s, chronicled the lives of young female Oasis fans who were born long after the band’s prime. Doble describes “many thousands of young, female Oasis fans who chat about the band every day on X, Tik Tok and Instagram” and spoke to fans from Brazil and Russia during her research.

According to James Corcoran, host of The Oasis Podcast, this phenomenon marks a return to the band’s original allure. Corcoran recalled a relatively even gender balance when he first started attending Oasis shows. “Later on it did get more rowdy and male, that football fan crowd took over a bit and an Oasis gig became an opportunity for lads to meet up and get hammered,” he told The Quietus.

It isn’t particularly unusual for a band to attract a new generation of fans years or even decades after their formation. But one of the compelling aspects of Doble’s reporting involves a distinctly 21st-century twist to Oasis fandom: Liam Gallagher’s accessibility and eagerness to engage with fans on Twitter/X.

Therefore, if you find yourself at an Oasis concert next year and are surprised to see a younger audience than expected, there’s a logical explanation for that. In fact, it’s likely due to a convergence of various factors.
