Oliver Stone Told Robert Downey Jr. He Ruined “Natural Born Killers”

It seems Oliver Stone is not a huge fan of his film “Natural Born Killers,” and he blames one of the film’s stars for “ruining” the iconic ’90s flick—none other than Robert Downey Jr.!

If you remember, “Natural Born Killers” was highly controversial when it was released in 1994. The movie was condemned in the media for its brutal depiction of violence and even inspired some real-life copycat crimes. Despite this, many critics praised the film.

However, now it looks like Oliver Stone has some issues with the movie, particularly with the performance of Robert Downey Jr. Stone holds the “Iron Man” actor responsible for his disdain for the film.

In a recent oral history of the film by Esquire, Stone criticized Robert for his “slapstick” acting while playing journalist Wayne Gale. He even told the actor at one point, “You’re ruining my movie!”

This is quite a harsh review, but in fairness, RDJ portrayed the Australian character as a bombastic, fame-seeking kook in the unhinged—but memorable—role.

Robert Downey Jr. probably won’t lose sleep over Oliver’s remarks. After all, he recently landed his first Oscar for “Oppenheimer” and became one of the biggest stars on the planet thanks to his Marvel reinvention.

It seems like it’s time for Oliver Stone to let this one go.
