Newlyweds Olivia Munn and John Mulaney recently shared wonderful news: they have welcomed their second child, a daughter named Méi June. The couple made the announcement through a pair of heartfelt Instagram posts on Sunday, revealing that Méi was born via surrogate on September 14.

Munn expressed her complex emotions about not being able to experience pregnancy firsthand. In her post, she reflected on her first meeting with their gestational surrogate, remarking on the mother-to-mother connection they established. “She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel,” Munn shared.

Her gratitude poured out as she thanked the surrogate for safely carrying their baby for nine months, stating, “Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe and made our dreams come true.” Munn has been open about her difficulties regarding her health, particularly her recent battle with breast cancer, which led to significant surgeries including a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy.

Sharing a heartfelt sentiment about her new daughter, Munn called her “my little plum, my little dragon,” expressing pride in her journey to join the family and concluding with, “My heart has exploded.” It was a touching tribute to her daughter and the love surrounding their family.

John Mulaney also took to social media to share his joy, simply stating, “I love my little girl so much.” The birth of Méi June marks the second child for the couple, who already have a two-year-old son, Malcolm, born in November 2021.

The news of their baby’s arrival comes just two months after Munn and Mulaney tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in New York. Their relationship has garnered much attention over the past few years following their initial romance, and this new chapter is a significant milestone in their journey together.

In an interview with Vogue earlier this year, Munn had candidly discussed their decision to expand their family via surrogacy. Doing so followed her breast cancer diagnosis, a life-altering experience that shaped her perspective on motherhood and family planning. “When you’re pregnant with your own baby, it’s like teamwork – you and the baby working together to make their little life come true,” she remarked.

Munn elaborated on the trust required when choosing a surrogate, emphasizing the challenge of finding someone who resonates with her as a mother. She mentioned that this needed to be a person she could trust completely during the course of the pregnancy. Munn also highlighted the importance of maintaining her health and well-being, as every decision impacts the surrogate, and, ultimately, the child.

At the age of 42, Munn made the decision to freeze her eggs for a third time, showcasing her proactive approach to family planning amidst health challenges. “This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have options for not only fighting cancer, but also having more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options,” she shared.

As Munn and Mulaney embark on this exciting new chapter with their growing family, their story serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the resilience and hope that can emerge from challenging circumstances.
