Olympic Breakdancer Raygun Responds Boldly to Fashion Critics

Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn, also known as Raygun, who competed in the Olympics in Paris, France, and lost with a score of 0, is clapping back at critics of her unique uniform.

After Gunn debuted on the international stage, many people took to social media with criticism for both her dance moves and her fashion sense, with one writing of the latter, “The Aussie B-Girl Raygun dressed as a school PE teach complete with cap while everyone else is dressed in funky breaking outfits has sent me.”

The outfit featured a green and yellow baseball cap with a matching polo shirt and athletic pants.

In response to the negative reactions, Gunn headed to her Instagram Stories on Aug. 9 to bluntly say, “Looking forward to the same level of scrutiny on what the b-boys wear tomorrow.”

According to Yahoo! Sports, Gunn didn’t know that the dancers could wear whatever they wanted and decided to go for a traditional uniform in Australia’s colors.

“I didn’t get the memo that we weren’t gonna rep our country colors. What’s going on there?” she told the publication.

She also reacted to the backlash to her dancing style which led to many viral memes, with quite a few people comparing her to Homer Simpson from The Simpsons spinning on the floor.

“Look, I came into the event kind of expecting that I wouldn’t get a vote,” she said, before defending her dancing. “My style is not as suited to these events. You can see the dynamics, and a lot of really quick footwork, and power moves, and freezes, and things like that.”

Gunn allegedly didn’t start breakdancing until she was in her 20s, and she currently works as a lecturer at Macquarie University when she’s not practicing dancing. Her husband, Samuel Free, is also a breakdancer and her coach.
