One Year Ago: Beloved NYC TV Meteorologist Elise Finch Suddenly Passed Away

It was one year ago today, on July 16, 2023, that New York City lost a cherished television figure.

Elise Finch, a dedicated meteorologist with WCBS-TV (CBS 2), passed away in a New York City hospital on July 16, 2023.

The news, confirmed by WCBS-TV shortly after her passing, left her colleagues, viewers, and family in a state of shock last summer.

Starting her career as a weekend forecaster, Finch quickly became a beloved member of the station’s morning crew.

WCBS described Elise as “a gifted and consummate professional who took great care with her work” and “a wonderful ambassador in the community, including her hometown of Mount Vernon.” Her dedication to her craft was unyielding.

Finch remained a broadcasting professional up until her final days.

Remarkably, she was on-air less than 48 hours before her sudden death, which sent waves of sorrow throughout the station.

Elise is survived by her daughter Grace and husband, Craig Henriques, a photojournalist at WCBS-TV. Following her death, a GoFundMe campaign successfully raised over $14,000 for her family.

A well-attended memorial service took place in New York City a few days later, and Elise was laid to rest in Westchester County, NY.

The exact cause of the TV personality’s death has not been publicly disclosed.
