Osgood Perkins’ ‘Longlegs’ Hits $100M, Year’s Top-Grossing Indie Release

Osgood Perkins’ breakthrough horror film *Longlegs*, starring Maika Monroe and an almost unrecognizable Nicolas Cage, has reached a significant milestone, crossing $100 million globally, as the studio proudly announced on Friday.

With a total gross of $72M in the U.S. and Canada, *Longlegs* is now the highest-grossing film for Neon, both this year and overall. The movie leads the charts as the top independent film release and the highest-grossing R-rated horror film of the year. It has also established itself as the most successful indie horror film of the last decade.

Written and directed by Perkins, *Longlegs* follows the story of FBI Agent Lee Harker (played by Monroe), who is on the trail of a serial killer. Throughout her pursuit, she uncovers a collection of occult clues that she must decipher to stop the killer’s horrifying spree.

The film’s production team included Dave Caplan of C2, Dan Kagan of Traffic, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Range, Nicolas Cage for Saturn Films, and Chris Ferguson of Oddfellows. The film was fully financed by C2.

On the international stage, Black Bear managed the sales rights, contributing $31M to the worldwide total. They directly distributed the film in the UK and Ireland, which has emerged as the top-grossing international market with $10M. Elevation Pictures, a sister company of Black Bear, was responsible for distribution in Canada, adding more than $7M to the North American gross. The film still awaits release in several major territories, including Latin America and Italy.

Neon has been strengthening its presence in the genre space recently with releases like *Longlegs*, Hunter Schafer’s *Cuckoo*, and Black Bear’s *Immaculate* starring Sydney Sweeney. The company is already collaborating again with Perkins, C2, and Black Bear on *The Monkey*, an adaptation of the Stephen King short story starring Theo James, set to premiere in theaters on February 21, 2025. Additionally, Neon will be releasing Perkins’ upcoming feature *Keeper*, starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, and will reunite with Monroe for *They Follow*, the highly anticipated sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s modern horror classic *It Follows*.
