Over 30 Book-to-TV Show Adaptations Premiering This Year

Several best-selling books have inspired new and returning television series this year, as well as box office magnets like It Ends With Us and Wicked, which is set to premiere later in the fall. More novel adaptations are in the works, including romantic comedies by Emily Henry and more best-sellers by Colleen Hoover.

The year 2024 has seen a diverse range of adaptations, including historical fiction like Apple TV+’s Pachinko and FX’s Shōgun, young adult best-sellers such as Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper graphic novels and John Green’s Turtles All the Way Down, and science fiction titles like Apple TV+’s Dark Matter and Netflix’s The Three-Body Problem, among many others.

Upcoming adaptations in 2024 include the second season of Pachinko, based on Min Jin Lee’s epic historical novel, and season two of Tell Me Lies, based on Carola Lovering’s book. These are joined by The Perfect Couple, adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s murder mystery beach read, and several more. Here are some standout TV shows based on books coming out soon:

Bad Monkey – Apple TV+

Based on Carl Hiaasen’s best-seller, Bad Monkey premiered on Apple TV+ on August 14. The show stars Vince Vaughn, L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, and more. Guest stars include Charlotte Lawrence, John Ortiz, and Zach Braff.

Mary & George – Starz
