Patrick J. Adams of Suits Joins Yellowstone Spinoff Madison

Suits and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star Patrick J. Adams has joined the cast of Madison, the latest installment in super-producer Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise. The new series stars Michelle Pfeiffer in the lead role and follows a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana. The series is described as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection.” Initially titled “2024,” its more modern setting suggests a significant departure from the usual Yellowstone narratives, which span eras from the Civil War to the Great Depression.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adams will play Russell McIntosh, a character who has adhered to a predetermined life path. Adams joins a cast that includes Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett. Previously, discussions had centered around Matthew McConaughey potentially joining the project. However, it remains unclear if McConaughey was considered for the lead role instead of Pfeiffer or if he would have starred alongside her.

Patrick J. Adams is widely recognized for his portrayal of Mike Ross on the long-running USA Network series Suits. He has also briefly appeared as Hourman on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. More recently, Adams has been involved in projects like The Right Stuff, A League of Their Own, and Plan B.

The development of this newest spinoff coincides with Paramount’s preparations for the final episodes of the main Yellowstone series, scheduled to air in November. Series star Kevin Costner, instrumental in elevating the show to pop culture prominence, will not appear in the final episodes following failed contract negotiations with Paramount. The Yellowstone franchise has already successfully launched two spinoff series: 1883 and 1923. Additional projects within the Yellowstone universe are reportedly in development.

As the universe of Yellowstone continues to expand, various actors and creators associated with the franchise are venturing into both westerns and neo-westerns. Kevin Costner, despite the underperformance of Horizon: An American Saga Part One at the box office, is exploring release options for the remaining parts. Taylor Sheridan has begun working on Landman and is also preparing for the second season of Tulsa King, which stars Sylvester Stallone and mixes crime, comedy, and drama, available on Paramount+.

Madison is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions. The executive producers include Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Christina Voros, Michael Friedman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Keith Cox.
