Paul Feig Shares Inspiration Behind A Simple Favor 2

Fans were in for a treat in March when it was revealed that a sequel to the 2018 hit A Simple Favor was in the works. Not only are stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively returning, but filmmaker Paul Feig is also set to come back. This marks Feig’s first-ever sequel, and he explained to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con that his return stemmed from his love of the characters, along with an intriguing idea for another film.

“I’ve avoided them like the plague, but this one, I just love those characters and I remember just thinking, ‘I think there’s something more to do with them,'” Feig shared. “And I had an idea for a different movie that took place in Italy, and I was like, ‘wait, what if I marry these two?’ And that’s what we did. And it’s really fun. We just had our first test screening of an early cut that I did this week and it tested through the roof.”

A Simple Favor 2 follows the success of its predecessor, which charmed both fans and critics alike. The original 2018 film features Kendrick as Stephanie, a widowed single mother and vlogger in Connecticut, whose life intertwines with her best friend Emily, portrayed by Lively. Emily, who seemingly has it all—a thriving career, a loving family, and a glamorous lifestyle—mysteriously vanishes. Stephanie takes it upon herself to investigate Emily’s past, uncovering unexpected twists and secrets.

Details about the plot of A Simple Favor 2 are currently being kept under tight wraps. However, initial reports from 2022 suggested that the sequel would see Stephanie and Emily traveling to the island of Capri for Emily’s wedding. The event, which is set to Emily and a wealthy Italian businessman, promises a tale of murder and betrayal.

The sequel is being produced in collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate and will eventually be available for streaming on Prime Video. Cast members Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack are also expected to reprise their roles. Jessica Sharzer is back to pen the script, with contributions from Feig and Laeta Kalogridis. The film is slated for a 2025 release.
