Peacock Unveils Star-Studded Thriller: The Day of the Jackal

Peacock’s latest espionage series, The Day of the Jackal, seems perfectly tailored for fans of the genre. At the forefront of the show is a stellar cast led by Eddie Redmayne, who portrays the titular “Jackal” — a highly skilled and elusive hitman known for his masterful disguise abilities. Hounding his every move is a determined British intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch. Meanwhile, Money Heist star Úrsula Corberó takes on the role of Nuria, a woman who knows the Jackal personally but is unaware of his deadly profession.

For those who love spy fiction, there’s another exciting aspect: the series, set to premiere on November 7, is based on Frederick Forsyth’s acclaimed 1971 novel of the same name. This gripping story revolves around a shadowy organization that hires the Jackal to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle. If the series mirrors the suspense and intensity of the book, widely regarded as one of the best thrillers ever written, viewers on Peacock are in for an enthralling experience.

“An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal, (Eddie Redmayne) makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee,” explains Peacock’s official synopsis. “But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lashana Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”

The 10-episode series has a strong creative team behind it, including writer and executive producer Ronan Bennett, best known for his work on the crime drama Top Boy, available on Netflix. This new venture underscores Peacock’s growing reputation for offering quality releases. Other much-anticipated upcoming titles include The Killer, Peacock’s rendition of the 1989 John Woo classic, which is directed by Woo himself.

Peacock’s impressive lineup also features Poker Face (soon to return with its second season), The Traitors, and Ted (a prequel series to the Seth MacFarlane Ted films). Combined with The Day of the Jackal, these releases solidify Peacock’s position as a compelling streaming service, well worth its subscription fee.
