Pedro Almodóvar’s full-length English debut is arriving later this year. “The Room Next Door” represents a significant milestone in his exceptional career, marking his first feature film primarily in English. The movie stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, with the studio releasing a first look at its official trailer.

The poster, shared by Sony Classics, features Moore and Swinton’s faces against a maroon backdrop. The caption reads, “The Room Next Door, the first English language feature from Pedro Almodóvar, starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. Only in theaters this December.”

The film also stars John Turturro and Alessandro Nivola and is based on a novel by Sigrid Nunez. Almodóvar is both writing the script and directing, consistent with his approach to his Spanish-language projects.

“The Room Next Door” is eagerly anticipated, with Almodóvar expressing a long-standing desire to direct in English. In 2022, he announced he was stepping down from a project he was developing with Cate Blanchett. “I have dreamt of working with Cate for such a long time. Dirty Films has been so generous with me this whole time, and I was blinded by excitement, but unfortunately, I no longer feel able to fully realize this film,” he said.

Almodovar and Julianne Moore have known each other for years

Almodóvar has collaborated with numerous English-speaking stars in the past, including Tilda Swinton in his short film “The Human Voice” and Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal in “Strange Way of Life.” The latter short film explores a passionate affair between two cowboys.

When discussing “Strange Way of Life,” he shared his eagerness to write in English. “Even though we have our own western type, the spaghetti western, I wanted to make it a classic western,” he told The New York Times.

Pedro Pascal expressed his honor in working with Almodóvar, reminiscing about watching his films as a young man. “I remember it feeling like going to a new amusement park,” he said. “An entire world of color and play and a kind of naughty rebellion was introduced to my experience.”
