Percy Jackson Season 2 Casts Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho

The upcoming second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a show that scored Disney+’s biggest premiere yet, will feature the beloved Gray Sisters. Over the weekend at D23, Disney revealed the casting choices for these fan-favorite characters. The Gray Sisters, a magical trio who share one eye and one tooth, will be portrayed by Sandra Bernhard (as Anger), Kristen Schaal (as Tempest), and Margaret Cho (as Wasp). All three actresses are successful stand-up comedians, likely indicating that their roles will provide a significant amount of comedic relief.

In the series, the Gray Sisters operate a taxi firm in New York City, a plot point that will bring them into contact with some of the show’s young heroes. However, this might not be entirely favorable for the heroes, as the Gray Sisters hold a bit of a grudge against “heroes” due to a past encounter with Perseus. During his youth, Perseus stole their eye and threw it into a lake.

In Rick Riordan’s books, the trio is described as ancient and hideous. It remains to be seen whether the show will lean into this description with heavy makeup or if Disney will opt for a more recognizable look for the stars. In the Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters feature film, the Gray Sisters were played by Mary Birdsong, Missi Pyle, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

It is speculated that the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will loosely follow the plot of The Sea of Monsters, the second book in the series. This storyline involves Percy and his friends rescuing the satyr Grover from the Cyclops Polyphemus and retrieving the Golden Fleece to save their camp.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on The Lightning Thief, the first novel in Rick Riordan’s acclaimed book series. Walker Scobell, known for The Adam Project, stars as Percy Jackson. This eight-episode season follows Percy on a quest to return Zeus’s stolen master bolt, as he is framed as the prime suspect. He must achieve this before the Summer Solstice deadline to prevent catastrophic consequences due to the Mount Olympus in-fighting.

The series also features a talented cast, including Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Glynn Turman (Chiron), Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), Charlie Bushnell (Luke), Adam “Edge” Copeland (Ares), Jay Duplass (Hades), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hermes), Timothy Omundson (Hephaestus), Lance Reddick (Zeus), and Toby Stephens (Poseidon).

The first season is currently streaming on Disney+. However, there is no release date for the second season yet.
