Perdue Foods Recalls More Than 167,000 Pounds of Frozen Chicken

Perdue Foods is recalling over 167,000 pounds of frozen chicken products due to concerns about contamination.

The affected items include frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nuggets and tender products that may contain foreign materials, specifically metal. This information was shared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) in an official statement.

Perdue Foods has received various complaints from customers who reported finding metal wire embedded in the chicken products. As a result of these complaints, the company notified the FSIS, prompting the recall.

While the FSIS stated that there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions linked to the consumption of these products, it recommended that anyone who may have concerns about possible injuries or illnesses should seek advice from a healthcare provider.

The agency expressed concern that some of the affected products might still be in consumers’ freezers. Therefore, anyone who has purchased these items is advised not to eat them. Instead, they should dispose of the products or return them to the store where they were purchased.

The chicken products in question were manufactured on March 23, 2024, and were distributed to various retail locations across the country. They were also available for purchase directly by consumers online.

The recall encompasses different sizes of chicken breast tenders and nuggets, as well as products branded under Butcherbox. All recalled products can be identified by the P-33944 establishment number printed on the packaging.

Perdue Foods is based in Salisbury, Maryland, and has significant operations in Washington state. In a statement on the company’s website, Senior Vice President Jeff Shaw explained, “We determined the material to be a very thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process.” He added, “Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily recall all of these packages of products. If you have any of these packages in your home, please do not consume the product and contact Perdue Foods.”

As consumers navigate this recall, it is crucial to remain vigilant about the food they purchase and consume. Safety measures such as checking recall updates from the FSIS can help mitigate risks associated with contaminated food products. Staying informed about which products might pose a risk can protect families from potential health hazards.

Perdue Foods has taken proactive steps in addressing this issue by informing the public and collaborating with the FSIS to ensure consumer safety. Recalls of this nature highlight the importance of manufacturers maintaining stringent quality control measures throughout the production process to prevent contamination from occurring.

Manufacturers are encouraged to implement rigorous testing and quality assurance protocols to minimize the risk of foreign materials being introduced into food products. This incident serves as a reminder that even well-established brands can face challenges, and transparency in addressing concerns is vital in maintaining consumer trust.

With the ongoing emphasis on food safety and quality, consumers are reminded to stay informed about product recalls and safety alerts. The FSIS provides essential updates and information, which consumers can access to keep their families safe from potentially hazardous products.
