Police Launch Manhunt for Person of Interest in Kentucky Shooting

Interstate 75 was reopened late Saturday evening after an incident involving an active shooter, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Seven individuals sustained injuries along I-75, close to London, Kentucky. London Mayor Randall Weddle reported that not all injuries were gunshot wounds; there was also a traffic accident that contributed to the chaos.

Reports indicate that at least two of the injured individuals were transported to UK HealthCare, though their current conditions have not been disclosed.

As the investigation continues, a suspect is still at large. Kentucky State Police Trooper Scottie Pennington urged local residents to remain indoors and to avoid the area until further notice.

The sheriff’s office has identified a person of interest in connection with the incident: 32-year-old Joseph A. Couch. Authorities consider him “armed and dangerous.” Mayor Weddle noted that the terrain where Couch is believed to be hiding is particularly rugged, which could complicate efforts to apprehend him.

Details surrounding the incident are still sparse, and further information is expected to develop as the investigation unfolds.

In response to the situation, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear took to social media to announce that the highway was closed in both directions at exit 49, assuring the public that he was actively monitoring the situation.

The Louisville office of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has joined the effort to assist state police with the investigation, further emphasizing the seriousness of the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Joseph A. Couch’s whereabouts to come forward, as community safety remains a top priority.

This story is still developing, and updates are expected as authorities continue their investigation and gather additional information.
