Popcaan Wants Kendrick Lamar Song Turned Off to Support Drake

Popcaan has reaffirmed his loyalty to Drake, demanding a Kendrick Lamar song be turned off during an interview with Link Up TV. The dancehall artist was discussing his career when a Kendrick Lamar track started playing in the background, visibly annoying him.

Popcaan immediately questioned why Lamar’s music was playing in his presence. The interviewer informed him that someone upstairs was playing music on the “surround sound system.”

“I don’t care. I don’t wanna hear that. Change the station,” Popcaan responded in disbelief. “Weh? If a dat a play, skip dat bloodclaat! Nuh waan hear daat… Change di station!”

The dancehall superstar elaborated on his dislike for Lamar’s music, citing his loyalty to Drake and the OVO collective. At one point, he even rolled up his sleeve to show off his OVO tattoo. Though he is now independent, Popcaan emphasized that he remains a staunch supporter and friend of Drake.

“Mi nuh know why di bomboclaat dem a play Kendrick Lamar in yah bout. Mi nuh waan hear no Kendrick Lamar ni**a,” he continued. “All when time mi independent, an OVO mi ting deh same way. Yeh, a loyalty me deal wid.”

Popcaan has been affiliated with OVO since 2016 and officially joined the imprint in 2018. However, in 2023, he told Crack Magazine that he was ready to become a free agent. He expressed a love-hate relationship with October’s Very Own, admitting complications over business decisions.

“I have so much music [but] the label can be weird sometimes. I love the label, but I don’t like them,” he disclosed. “But I’ll be independent soon.”
