(Mega spoilers for The Boys will be found below.)

Are you still breathing after the fourth season finale of The Boys? Everything has suddenly gone downhill for the vigilantes. Through no victory of his own, Homelander is now the de facto U.S. leader after the rapid presidential ascendance of the Speaker of the House, who pledged his allegiance to Homie of the Seven, thanks to Sister Sage. Homelander then declared martial law and deputized Supes to round up anybody who opposes them.

This is very bad news for The Boys group. With current events mirroring the show, Amazon/Sony Pictures TV issued a statement: “The Boys is a fictitious series that was filmed in 2023, and any scene or plotline similarities to these real-world events are coincidental and unintentional. Amazon, Sony Pictures Television, and the producers of The Boys reject, in the strongest terms, real-world violence of any kind.”

The episode was initially titled “Assassination Run” but has since been renamed “Season 4 Finale.” The Shifter’s assassination plot was thwarted when Starlight escaped captivity. Butcher then showed up, Suped and tentacle’d to the gills, and ripped Victoria Neumann in half. Sister Sage released a tape that took Robert Singer out of the White House. Consequently, Homelander now holds power, with most vigilantes taken into custody in the final moments of the episode. Now, it’s time to rank where the characters ended up this season.

Unranked is Soldier Boy. Not much happened with him, but a credits scene hinted at his return, making Homelander teary-eyed. This promises further complications and the possibility of seeing Jensen Ackles onscreen again.

18. Victoria Neumann: It’s officially over for her. She began the season with a disgusting “selfie” from Butcher and ended with him tearing her in half. On the plus side, she might have left a lasting legacy in her daughter, who could return.

14-17. The Boys: MM, Frenchie, Kimiko & Hughie: Their fate is a collective mess. They were rounded up and sent to internment camps or prisons. MM was knocked out by Love Sausage, Frenchie received a whisper from Cate, Kimiko was strong-armed by Sam, and she overcame her muteness at the worst moment. Hughie lost his father, was violated, and got tricked into getting engaged to the Shifter disguised as Annie January. Now, prison seems like a slight relief for him.

13. Deep: He killed his new octopus girlfriend before being rejected by Sage. He got kicked in the crotch by Starlight but managed to stay alive because he knows how to bend the knee.

12. Ashley: After mainlining Compound V on a whim, she didn’t fare well. However, she might enjoy “hulking out” while doing the dominatrix thing for a living.

11. Starlight: Her boyfriend got engaged to a fake Annie January and cheated while she was imprisoned. She reactivated her powers just in time and escaped. Now, she might have to rescue The Boys, potentially with some help from A-Train or Ashley.

10. Black Noir 2.0: He killed the wrong Ashley but managed not to get killed by Homelander. He looks badass but isn’t as interesting as his predecessor.

9. Firecracker: After probably destroying her health to lactate for Homelander, she still got ditched. However, she acted as the face of the Seven for Homelander’s victory, which might be all she ever wanted.

8. A-Train: His unlikely yet successful redemption arc means he must hide forever. Nevertheless, he might still help in rescuing The Boys, having at least removed his tracker and stayed alive.

5-7. Sam, Cate & Cindy: They have set themselves up nicely for the next season of Gen V. Maybe Cindy will even go to college. There seem to be no current cons for these pro-Homelander Supes just yet.

4. Ryan: He appears to be the only viable option to kill Homelander. Although he went to the dark side, it seems likely that he’ll switch sides again in the fifth season. However, he might have to kill his father.

3. Homelander: He’s apparently king of the free world now, still trying to fill the hole in his soul, although he did get a few moments of satisfaction. This show cannot end without Homelander’s death.

2. Sister Sage: She’s currently on top of the world and might be the only one with any strategic pull over Homelander. However, she remains a prisoner of her mind, unable to enjoy life without a lobotomy.

1. Billy Butcher: Now in the wind, aiming to commit Supe genocide and avenge Becca. Nonetheless, that wicked brain tumor means he’s still talking to Joe Kessler, reminiscent of Fight Club, which might be the worst self-punishment, even if he prevails physically.

‘The Boys’ fourth season can be streamed on Prime Video/Amazon.
