Pre-Order the New ‘Hunger Games’ Book ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ Online

“Hunger Games” fans won’t have to wait much longer for the next installment in the fantasy series. Amazon and Target have started taking pre-orders for “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the fifth book in the popular young adult franchise. Officially set to release on March 18, 2025, the book is currently available for pre-order at a discounted price of $22, a 20% reduction from its list price.

Even though the release is a few months away, “Sunrise on the Reaping” has already climbed into the Top Five on Amazon’s bestselling young adult books chart.

Target offers an exclusive edition of the new book, which includes “bonus content.” The specifics of this additional content have not been disclosed, but previous special editions at Target have featured unique artwork, new covers, and extra pages. The book is available for pre-order now at Target for $22.39.

Amazon also offers the book for pre-order in various formats, including hardcover, Kindle, and audiobook. Their pre-order guarantee ensures you will be charged the lowest price available between the order and the shipping date. Scholastic Press, the book’s publisher, has provided a temporary cover image. The official cover will be revealed in the coming months, and the book will contain 400 pages.

Set 24 years before the original “Hunger Games,” “Sunrise on the Reaping” follows new characters preparing for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the “Second Quarter Quell.” Fans of the series will recognize Haymitch Abernathy as the victor of this edition of the Games, a win that sets off a series of punitive actions from President Snow.

This is the second prequel to the original “Hunger Games” trilogy, following “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” released in 2020. “Sunrise” takes place 40 years after the events of that novel.

“As with ‘Sunrise on the Reaping,’ I was inspired by David Hume’s idea of implicit submission and the ease with which the many are governed by the few,” said Suzanne Collins, the author. “The story also allowed a deeper dive into propaganda and the power of those who control the narrative. The question ‘Real or not real?’ feels increasingly pressing to me every day.”

Who will be the tribute? Who will survive or perish? “Sunrise on the Reaping” invites readers back to the world of Panem. In addition to this new title, the entire series—including “The Hunger Games,” “Catching Fire,” “Mockingjay,” and “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”—is available now as a four-book paperback box set on Amazon and Target.
