Prime Video Confirms ‘Last One Laughing UK’ Hosted by Jimmy Carr
Prime Video has confirmed it will create a UK version of the international show Last One Laughing. The Amazon streaming service had considered a British adaptation last year, which is now proceeding after a competitive selection process.
Renowned comedian and presenter Jimmy Carr will host the show, set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video worldwide in 2025.
The format involves 10 British comedians spending a day in a living room-styled studio, trying to make each other laugh. The first laugh results in a warning (a yellow card), and a second laugh leads to elimination (a red card). The only outside communication available is via a phone controlled by the host. The basic rule is straightforward: if you laugh, you’re out.
“It’s an incredibly simple concept with universal appeal,” said Cat Lynch, UK Unscripted Executive at Amazon MGM Studios, at the Edinburgh TV Festival. While she did not disclose the participants, she praised the lineup as “so good — all the people we wanted,” and urged producers to seek out “the next Last One Laughing.”
Last One Laughing UK is adapted from the Japanese Amazon original Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo. The format has become the most watched title on Prime Video in France, Germany, and Italy, with local versions in over 20 territories. Celebrity hosts in other countries include Graham Norton (Ireland), Jay Baruchel (Canada), Eugenio Derbez (Mexico), Fedez (Italy), Michael “Bully” Herbig (Germany), Rebel Wilson (Australia), and Trevor Noah (South Africa).
Jimmy Carr expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to be making Last One Laughing UK with Prime Video. It’s sure to deliver laughs in an unexpected way. Usually, when I make a show with 10 brilliant comics, I expect everyone to laugh. But not in this series. The last one laughing wins. It’s a great format and has been a huge hit around the world. The series will be produced by Banijay UK labels Initial and Zeppotron.
