Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Chief of Staff Resigns After 3 Months

Josh Kettler started working for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in early May, but his time in the role has come to a premature end.

Reports indicate that Kettler, who served as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s chief of staff, has resigned after just three months in the position. His tenure began just before the couple’s trip to Nigeria, with expectations that he would effectively guide Harry through a significant phase in his career.

Initially brought on a trial basis, the decision to part ways with Kettler was mutual, as both sides recognized that the fit wasn’t quite right. His departure comes at a time when the couple is preparing for an upcoming four-day “quasi-royal tour” of Colombia, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

The announcement of their visit was made by Colombia’s vice president, Francia Márquez, who is notable for being the first Black woman to hold the role. She expressed her excitement about the former royal couple’s decision to visit, highlighting the planned stops in key cities such as Bogotá, Cartagena, and Cali.

“As the Vice President of Colombia and Minister of Equality and Equity, I am pleased to announce that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have kindly accepted my invitation to visit our beautiful country,” Márquez stated.

This trip marks the second official international visit for Prince Harry and Meghan since they relocated to California in 2020. The vice president further elaborated on the significance of the couple’s visit, stating that they would engage with leaders, youth, and women who represent the aspirations of Colombians committed to progress.

Prior to joining the Sussex team, Kettler held the position of chief of staff and head of strategic partnerships at Cognixion, a communication platform. He also utilized his skills over a decade with the outdoor clothing brand Patagonia and spent a year with Better Place Forests in San Francisco. Kettler describes himself on LinkedIn as an “experienced executive accelerator, organizer, and confidant,” as well as a “steadfast supporter of conservation and the environment.”

The Duke and Duchess have faced significant challenges in securing the right staff members for their team. It has been reported that at least 18 employees have left since their wedding in 2018, with a significant number departing after the couple moved to the United States.

A former staff member shared their perspective with the media outlet, remarking, “What may be most telling is that the entire time I worked there, I don’t think I heard a single current or former employee on their staff say they would take the job again if given the chance.”

The former employee elaborated, “These aren’t employees they had just found off the streets. Many of them are people who had previously excelled working for demanding bosses in high-performance companies and environments.”
