Prince Harry and Meghan’s Frogmore Home Too Small for William and Kate

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s former home, Frogmore Cottage, vastly differs from their current luxurious residence in Montecito. Frogmore Cottage, a smaller royal property on the Windsor Home Park estate, was gifted to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the late Queen following their 2018 wedding. Though modest in comparison to some other royal residences, it had its charm and rich history of past royal occupants.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—reside nearby at Adelaide Cottage. Adelaide Cottage, a quaint 19th-century home featuring four bedrooms and unique decor like gilded dolphins on the ceiling, was deemed too small for their family before the Sussexes moved in. The Waleses’ primary country retreat at Anmer Hall on the Sandringham Estate is considerably grander, boasting 10 bedrooms, a tennis court, and an outdoor pool.

Despite Harry and Meghan stepping down from senior royal duties while residing at Frogmore Cottage, the Duke of Sussex has fond memories of the home, which he recounts in his memoir, “Spare.” He describes Frogmore as a picturesque place where they felt destined to live, enjoying morning walks, interacting with the Queen’s gardeners, and appreciating the beauty of the estate.

The estate holds sentimental value for Harry and Meghan; their engagement photos were taken at the nearby Frogmore House. They also lived there during Meghan’s pregnancy with Archie and his early months. Their Netflix documentary, “Harry & Meghan,” offers a rare glimpse into the couple’s life at Frogmore, showcasing their beautiful garden and modern kitchen.

Originally built under Queen Charlotte’s orders in 1801, Frogmore Cottage once had ten bedrooms but was remodeled to five, including an orangery and a vegetable garden during the Sussexes’ occupancy. Before moving into Frogmore, Harry and Meghan lived at Nottingham Cottage within Kensington Palace.

The Sussexes have since vacated Frogmore Cottage and now reside in Montecito, California, with their children. Their move marks a significant shift from their previous life in the UK, reflecting the couple’s new chapter away from royal duties.
