Prince Harry is set to visit New York City for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly during Climate Week. On August 27, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed that Harry would be in town to support various patronages and philanthropic initiatives.

During his visit, Harry plans to engage with several nonprofit organizations, including African Parks, The HALO Trust, The Diana Award, and Travalyst. Additionally, he will be representing the Archewell Foundation, which he and his wife, Meghan Markle, established.

Climate Week will run from September 22 to September 29, and according to the UN’s official website, it will serve as a platform for sharing strategies for climate action and discussing avenues for further improvement.

This trip follows a recent four-day tour of Colombia that Harry and Meghan concluded just a week prior. While in South America, they met with Vice President Francia Marquez and engaged with local schools and community centers, discussing topics such as mental health, online safety, and the impact of social media.

This upcoming visit marks Harry’s first solo trip to New York City since he and Meghan participated in the Archewell Foundation’s inaugural in-person summit for World Mental Health Day in October 2023. That appearance came shortly after a more controversial trip to the city, which involved a car chase that attracted significant media attention.

In May 2023, Harry, Meghan, and her mother, Doria Ragland, attended the Women of Vision Awards, where Meghan received an honor. Following the ceremony, they faced intense media scrutiny, as a significant number of photographers pursued them. The New York Police Department reported that this pursuit involved the use of various vehicles and bicycles, forcing the security team to take evasive maneuvers repeatedly.

At that time, the couple’s representatives revealed that the ordeal lasted over two hours and included “multiple near-collisions” involving the paparazzi, other vehicles, and even NYPD officers.

Adding to the complications surrounding their visits, it was reported earlier in 2023 that Prince Harry and Meghan would receive enhanced security whenever they returned to New York City. A letter from the NYPD, obtained by NBC New York in February, indicated that the paparazzi’s actions were deemed “reckless” during the previous pursuit.

The letter stated that there was a “reckless disregard” for traffic laws and that the paparazzi exhibited “persistently dangerous and unacceptable behavior.” Following an investigation in collaboration with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, the NYPD concluded that they had enough evidence to potentially arrest two individuals for reckless endangerment.

As Climate Week approaches, all eyes will be on Prince Harry as he champions causes that align with his commitment to humanitarian efforts and environmental sustainability.
