Prince William and Kate Middleton Are Hiring for a Surprisingly Unique Skill

If you’ve ever considered working for the royal family, now’s your chance.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are hiring an assistant private secretary for their official post at Kensington Palace, and the role is about as important as it sounds. According to the job description, the secretary “will lead the planning and delivery for most of TRH’s public engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, and contribute to the development of the Household’s strategy to maximize impact across the constituent nations of the UK, with a particular focus on Wales.”

They are looking for someone with “excellent communication and organizational skills.” Additionally, they need a skill that neither the Prince nor Princess currently possess—the ability to speak Welsh fluently. This is particularly interesting since the couple spends a great deal of time in Wales.

In 2022, Prince William revealed he was polishing his Welsh skills after being given his new title, Prince of Wales. While his fluency level remains unknown, this role is another way for the Prince and Princess to further strengthen bonds throughout Wales.

The timing of this job opening is also notable. Since the Princess’s announcement of her diagnosis at the start of the year, the couple slightly stepped back from their usual social schedule and public life, until recently.

After attending Trooping the Colour in June and last week’s Wimbledon, where they appeared in high spirits, Princess Catherine seems to be in better spirits and ready to take on more after her recovery. The search to fill this role to boost their public appearances supports this view.

With the royal children also officially on summer break, it’s likely we will see lots of family outings in the near future.
