Prince William Banned Meghan Markle from Wearing Princess Diana’s Jewelry

Prince William reportedly banned Meghan Markle from wearing the late Princess Diana’s jewelry at her wedding, according to a new biography by royal insider Rob Jobson.

The Prince of Wales, who proposed to Princess Catherine with his late mother’s engagement ring, was apparently concerned about Prince Harry’s decision to marry the former “Suits” actress from the outset.

He allegedly urged his younger brother to slow down the relationship to give Meghan time to adjust to royal life before making a full commitment.

These revelations come from Jobson’s biography of the Princess of Wales, where he explains that tension between the Sussexes and the Waleses was evident even before Meghan formally joined the royal family in 2018.

Jobson wrote that William, still wary of the match, sought assurances from the Queen that Meghan would not wear any jewelry previously worn by Diana. This request was made despite William’s wife, Catherine, being allowed to wear some of Diana’s pieces, a privilege attributed to her rank.

William, who had been in a relationship with Kate Middleton for nearly a decade before marrying her, was reportedly uneasy about the rapid progression of Harry and Meghan’s relationship. The couple announced their engagement in November 2017, a year after they made their relationship public, having met in June 2016.

Jobson noted that, according to Harry, any goodwill from William and Catherine vanished long before the wedding preparations began. He recounted that William told Harry it would be best to give Meghan more time to acclimate to royal life and suggested he cool the relationship. Harry perceived this as an affront, leading to a rapid deterioration in their relationship.

Harry’s memoir “Spare” even claims that this led to a physical altercation with William.

Other revelations from the biography include the rocky start Meghan had with William and Kate, highlighted by an incident where Meghan, having forgotten her lip gloss, asked to borrow Catherine’s, surprising the duchess. According to Jobson, Catherine was taken aback but reluctantly obliged, grimacing as Meghan applied the gloss.

The relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales is now nearly non-existent, especially after Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020. This rift was widened by several tell-all interviews and Harry’s 2023 memoir, “Spare,” where they alleged mistreatment by the royal family.

One of the most shocking accusations came during their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. The couple mentioned that certain royal family members had expressed concerns about the potential darkness of their baby’s skin.

In his book “Endgame,” published in December last year, Omid Scobie claimed that the royals in question were King Charles and the Princess of Wales. Jobson elaborates that Kate played a significant role in the Palace’s decision to release a statement noting that “recollections may vary” regarding the incident.
