The Princess of Wales’ absence from the spotlight is keenly felt by royal fans worldwide. She is currently taking time away from her official duties to continue her preventative cancer treatment.
Since her heartbreaking cancer announcement in February, the wife of Prince William has only made two public appearances. She graced the Trooping the Colour parade in June and was later seen at the Wimbledon Championships in July.
Although she has expressed her desire to return to royal duties “as soon as I am able,” she now has a long summer to spend with her family before her work demands return.
Plans for the Wales family’s holidays have remained private. Traditionally, Prince William and Princess Kate have taken their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – to various summer destinations like St Barths, Mustique, and the Isles of Scilly.
Later in the summer, William and Kate usually join other members of the royal family at Balmoral, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved Scottish residence, now inherited by King Charles.
According to the Mail on Sunday, the Princess of Wales will join her husband and three children at Balmoral this summer, keeping with royal tradition.
The mother-of-three will travel 502 miles from Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to Balmoral Castle. King Charles will host his family there for the second time during his reign.
Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands offers the perfect setting for the Princess of Wales to unwind. It’s a haven for royal children with countless acres of green space, horse riding, fishing, and outdoor activities that make it an ideal summer retreat before royal duties and school resume in September.
In his address to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in May 2021, Prince William spoke fondly of Scotland. It is here that he met his future wife, Kate, at the University of St Andrews.
“Scotland is a source of some of my happiest memories but also my saddest,” he said. “I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother had died. In the dark days of grief that followed, I found solace in the Scottish outdoors. My connection to Scotland will forever run deep.”
William continued, “Alongside this painful memory is one of great joy because it was here in Scotland that I first met Catherine. The town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart.”
“George, Charlotte, and Louis already know how dear Scotland is to both of us, and they are starting to build their own happy memories here too,” he added.
