In June 2022, Durek Verrett, an American “spiritual guide” from Los Angeles, proposed to Princess Märtha Louise with a stunning engagement ring. The ring consists of Brazilian emeralds and diamonds and took approximately six months to design. Verrett collaborated with jewelry designer Joy Sangalang Smith of Communion to bring the piece to life.

Emeralds are known to symbolize loyalty and new beginnings. The ring’s emerald also serves as a tribute to Princess Märtha Louise’s mother, Queen Sonja, who has a fondness for emerald jewelry. The design features a central emerald surrounded by a square arrangement of diamonds, signifying the four natural elements: water, earth, fire, and air. Additionally, the ring includes three diamonds representing Princess Märtha Louise’s three daughters from her first marriage to Ari Behn—Maud Angelica, Leah Isadora, and Emma Tallulah.

Queen Sonja has long been a fan of emeralds, and one of the most notable tiaras in Norway’s royal collection prominently features this gemstone. The Norwegian Emerald Parure Tiara, which dates back to the 1800s, includes diamonds and emeralds with intricate designs like cluster, festoon, anthemion, floral, and scroll elements. Queen Sonja has worn these pieces, which also come with a matching necklace, earrings, and brooch, since the 1960s.

Among the contemporary pieces in the Norwegian royal family’s collection is the Modern Gold Tiara. This piece features golden slats embedded with small diamonds and comes with various center gemstone options, including diamond and gold, diamond and green tourmaline, and diamond and topaz combinations. Queen Sonja wore the diamond and topaz option at a state banquet in Romania in September 1999.

Princess Märtha Louise owns a pearl choker which has been in her possession since she was a teenager. The choker includes five strands of pearls with an antique pearl at its center, diamond clasps, and three diamond pendants. She has worn this piece at various significant events.
