The Princess Royal has made her first public appearance since sustaining a concussion in a horse-related accident.

Princess Anne, 73, spent five nights in the hospital after reportedly being struck by a horse while out walking on June 23.

Her visit to the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) National Championships at Hartpury University and Hartpury College in Gloucestershire marks the beginning of her gradual return to public duties.

The association is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year, and Princess Anne has been closely involved with the organization for decades. She became its patron in 1971 and president in 1986.

Upon her arrival, the princess was greeted by the association’s chairwoman, Helena Vega Lozano, and chief executive, Michael Bishop.

Princess Anne is expected to join supporters in the arena, present awards, and meet the winners.

Michael Bishop commented, “We are honored to welcome the Princess Royal to our flagship event, the RDA National Championships, where we are celebrating our 55th anniversary. We are delighted that she has chosen to join us as she returns to royal duties.

“As our president, the princess holds a very special place in the hearts of the entire RDA community and has helped us celebrate many significant milestones while providing invaluable support for over five decades.”

Since the accident, Princess Anne has been recuperating at her Gatcombe Park home in Gloucestershire, adhering to standard concussion protocols.

The medical team indicated that her head injuries were consistent with a possible impact from a horse’s head or legs, though the exact details of the incident remain unclear due to her concussion.

An air ambulance was initially dispatched to transport the princess to the hospital, but she ultimately traveled by road after receiving on-site treatment from an emergency crew.

Princess Anne was treated at Southmead Hospital in Bristol for minor head injuries and her concussion.
