Pulsar Content Boards ‘A Survivor’s Tale,’ True Story of Marguerite de la Rocque

Pulsar Content has joined forces with KG Prods., the production company created by Costa Gavras and Michèle Ray-Gavras, to back “A Survivor’s Tale.” This movie stars Salomé Dewaels, known for her role in Xavier Giannoli’s Venice competition film “Lost Illusions.”

Directed by Belgian filmmaker Micha Wald, “A Survivor’s Tale” is inspired by the true events surrounding Marguerite de la Rocque, a young noblewoman in 16th century Canada. She is unjustly condemned and abandoned in the wilderness for being pregnant following a violent assault. Stranded with her attacker and her maid on a remote island near Newfoundland, Marguerite faces two years of extreme hardship on the so-called “Island of Demons.”

Marguerite’s story is one of survival against all odds. She battles hunger and harsh weather while striving to keep herself and her unborn child alive. Her journey is not just one of endurance but also of profound personal transformation and liberation. The film, originally titled “L’île de la Demoiselle,” features rising French actor Louis Peres, known for “For Night Will Come.”

Alexandre Gavras at KG Prods. is producing the film alongside Stenola Prods. The two companies have previously collaborated on Joachim Lafosse’s “The Restless” and “A Silence.” Pulsar Content is handling international sales, beginning at the Toronto International Film Festival.

In a statement, KG Prods. expressed hope that Marguerite’s tale of survival and personal growth will inspire women of all ages, demonstrating the incredible power of human will.

Wald, who debuted his first feature “In the Arms of My Enemy” at Cannes’ Critics Week, brings a seasoned eye to this project.

Pulsar Content describes the movie as both a feminist and epic period piece. The strong characters and compelling story are expected to resonate with a global audience, emphasizing themes that are still relevant today.

Stenola remarked that while survival films often highlight male experiences, Micha Wald has seized a unique opportunity to bring Marguerite’s epic voyage to the forefront, offering a deeply moving narrative.

Scheduled to begin principal photography in October in Brittany, the film is expected to be finished by mid-2025. In France, the movie will be distributed by The Jokers Films.
