Punisher and Kingpin Return; March Premiere Announced

Daredevil is back and born again.

Marvel unveiled the first footage of “Daredevil: Born Again” at D23 on Friday night, marking Charlie Cox’s return in his first solo series since Netflix’s “Daredevil” show from the 2010s. The series is set for a March release date.

In addition to Cox reprising his role as the blind lawyer turned crime fighter, “Daredevil: Born Again” also sees Vincent D’Onofrio returning as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin; Jon Bernthal as the Punisher; Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page; Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson; and Wilson Bethel as Poindexter. Newcomers to the cast include Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Jeremy Earl, and Ayelet Zurer, who will take over the role of Vanessa Marianna-Fisk from Sandrine Holt.

The panel also announced that filming for the second season would begin soon.

“Daredevil: Born Again” is a continuation of the three-season Netflix show, created by Drew Goddard, which ran from 2015 to 2018. This series, along with “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders,” and “The Punisher,” were all removed from Netflix and added to Disney+ in 2022. They became the first mature TV series added to Disney+, prompting the streamer to implement an age-restriction feature for younger viewers.

Originally envisioned as Marvel’s first 18-episode series, “Daredevil: Born Again” went through a significant creative overhaul, resulting in a more traditional episode count akin to other Disney+ shows.

Cox and D’Onofrio have already made appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects since the original Netflix series was canceled. Cox had a brief cameo as Matt Murdock in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” while D’Onofrio appeared as a major villain in both the “Hawkeye” and “Echo” series. Cox also showed up in “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” and briefly in “Echo.”
