When Queen Camilla seeks inspiration, she turns to a late member of the British royal family. According to author and friend of Camilla, Gyles Brandreth, this figure is none other than a relative of significant importance to her husband, King Charles III.

Brandreth recently shared with Hello! that the 77-year-old royal has adopted a motto from the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. “A couple of years ago, I hosted a lunch for Queen Camilla’s 75th birthday,” Brandreth recounted. “The Queen made a splendid speech about her future role and mentioned using Prince Philip as her role model. She quoted his mantra: ‘Look up, look out, say less, do more, get on with the job.'”

The podcaster and author humorously added, “My wife recently told me: ‘You keep quoting this, Gyles, but you don’t seem to be saying less—you seem to be saying more as the years go by.’ But I am trying to do more and get on with the job.”

Prince Philip’s guiding words seem to resonate with Camilla’s responsibilities as a working royal. They might also hold the key to the longevity of his marriage to Queen Elizabeth II.

The couple married in November 1947 and enjoyed the longest marriage of any British monarch, spanning over 73 years. Prince Philip passed away in 2021 at the age of 99. Queen Elizabeth II died a little over a year after her husband, in September 2022. She was 96. The royal couple had four children: Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne.
