Queen Camilla Updates on King Charles’ Health During Poignant Outing

Queen Camilla has given a health update about King Charles, who was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer earlier this year. During her visit to Bath, she opened the new Dyson Cancer Centre and discussed Charles’ health.

Upon being asked about the King’s condition by Macmillan Cancer Support worker Suzy Moon, Camilla, aged 77, responded, “He is doing very well.” During her visit, Camilla toured the new facility and interacted with the Cancer Centre’s supporters.

The Royal United Hospital, home to the Dyson Cancer Centre, serves over 500,000 people in the South West and is one of the largest cancer care facilities in the region. The Dyson Cancer Centre consolidates most of the RUH’s cancer services. It includes a research hub, chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward, a dedicated pharmacy, and teams specializing in nuclear medicine and physics.

The construction of the Dyson Cancer Centre began in 2011, funded by £10 million in public donations and an additional £40 million from government funding. The centre started receiving patients in April this year.

Camilla’s tour of the Dyson Cancer Centre also included a visit to the Macmillan Wellbeing Hub, a non-clinical space offering practical and emotional support to patients, families, and carers. Towards the end of her visit, Camilla unveiled a plaque to officially open the centre. In her speech, she congratulated everyone involved, saying, “I’ve had a very brief tour around, but everybody I’ve met, whether it’s patients, families, the nursing staff, or helpers, all seem to be over the moon about it.”

She added, “It’s got a very welcoming atmosphere, and you can see that it actually raises people’s spirits in very difficult times.”

Over the weekend, Charles and Camilla hosted Sir Keir Starmer at Balmoral for his first official visit as Prime Minister. Accompanied by his wife Victoria, Starmer arrived at the Scottish retreat on Saturday.

The Court Circular noted that the Prime Minister had an audience with King Charles on Saturday evening. On Sunday, he joined Charles and Camilla for the weekly church service at Crathie Kirk. The Starmers’ stay was brief, departing on Sunday as Parliament resumed on Monday.

Earlier in August, Charles and Camilla also hosted the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh at Balmoral. During that visit, Princess Kate made her first appearance at Crathie Kirk since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.

Before visiting Scotland, Kate and her family were spending time at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, situated on the Sandringham Estate.
