Rani Mukerji Returns for ‘Mardaani 3’ as Yash Raj Teases Next Chapter

EXCLUSIVE: Bollywood star Rani Mukerji is set to return for a third film in the popular Hindi action franchise, Mardaani.

Producer Yash Raj confirmed the news this morning and released a short clip teasing the next chapter and celebrating the franchise. This update coincides with the tenth anniversary of the first film in the cop series.

Plot and production details of the third film are being kept under wraps.

Mardaani 2, released in 2019, was written and directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Yash Raj. Mukerji reprised her role of police officer Shivani Shivaji Roy from the previous film. The sequel follows Roy’s attempts to catch a 21-year-old rapist and murderer, played by Vishal Jethwa.

The franchise has enjoyed both critical and commercial success so far, and lead Mukerji has been praised as a trailblazer for her role in the Hindi action film genre.

A third installment was floated as a possibility back in 2019, but things had been quiet in recent years.

Mukerji, the recipient of eight Filmfare Awards, starred in the Netflix film Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway last year.
