Rapper Scarface Hospitalized with Unspecified Medical Condition

Houston rap legend Scarface, born Brad Jordan, revealed through an Instagram post on Aug. 24 that he had been hospitalized. The post displayed Jordan in a hospital bed, hooked up to electrode wires and a breathing tube, with the caption “Ouch … Grateful” accompanied by prayer hands emojis.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the rapper and producer appeared to be in a cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU). This conclusion was drawn from a badge visible on a nurse who appeared in the Instagram photo.

Although it remains unclear what specifically caused Jordan’s hospitalization, the fact that he is in a cardiovascular ICU suggests it is likely an issue related to his heart. This is particularly concerning given Jordan’s medical history. In 2021, he received a kidney donated by his son, Chris, following complications from contracting COVID-19. He battled these complications for about a year and a half before the transplant.

Jordan has received a wave of well-wishes from fellow artists such as Chance The Rapper, Travis Scott, Mannie Fresh, Twista, Krayzie Bone, Ja Rule, and Anthony Hamilton. Celebrities like Cedric The Entertainer, Deon Cole, Affion Crockett, Antonio Tarver, Matt Barnes, and Joe Torry have also expressed their support. Fans are also sending their best wishes, all hoping for the Houston rapper’s speedy recovery.

A 2021 study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology indicates that cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of hospitalization post-transplant, as well as a common cause of death. After a kidney transplant, cardiovascular risk factors often worsen due to the emergence of immunosuppression. The study highlights that one-third of those who die post-transplant succumb to cardiovascular disease, which also accounts for 30% of hospitalizations in kidney transplant recipients.

The research suggests that placing kidney transplant recipients on statins, which are cholesterol blockers, can be a reasonable preventive measure, unless there are contraindications. It also recommends screening for and treating post-transplant diabetes and developing tailored immunosuppression medication regimens. The study indicates that remaining proactive about cardiovascular risks can lead to better outcomes for kidney transplant recipients.

Meanwhile, the entertainment world and hip-hop fans everywhere are wishing Scarface a swift recovery. The rapper’s resilience and strength have inspired many, and his well-being remains a priority for his supporters.
