Rapper YG Unites Rival Gangs for Compton Walk

The Compton rapper led the two gangs, the Treetop Pirus and Fruit Town Pirus, for a peaceful walk.

Rival gangs in Los Angeles came together in the streets of Compton on August 18, facilitated by Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson, better known as YG.

According to TMZ, the Compton-born rapper earned recognition for uniting the rival Compton gangs, the Treetop Pirus and Fruit Town Pirus, by organizing a peaceful walk. Friends, family members, and children were present, making the event a family-friendly gathering.

Compton gained a reputation in the hip-hop world when five emerging artists released a controversial record, “F**k tha Police.” Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren formed N.W.A. (N**gas With Attitude) and highlighted Compton to the world, leaving a significant impact that led to many other notable figures from the area, including The Game, Kendrick Lamar, and actor Anthony Anderson.

YG launched his recording career in 2008 with DJ Mustard, the producer behind Lamar’s recent hit, “Not Like Us,” and they founded their label, “Pu$haz Ink.”

The Compton rapper led the peaceful walk involving the two gangs, which began at Gonzales Park. Local residents gathered to take photos with YG and other attendees, with The Game also spotted at the event, mingling with the locals.

Although no specific reason was given for the walk, reports suggest that YG had been in discussions with both sides for some time to facilitate the gathering. Additionally, YG had another reason to celebrate, having released his latest project, “JUST RE’D UP 3,” on August 16.
