Rashida Jones Reveals She’s Not Legally Married to Ezra Koenig

Rashida Jones is clearing up any misconceptions about her relationship with Vampire Weekend frontman, Ezra Koenig.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, the 48-year-old actress was asked about her marital status, as speculation had grown over whether she and Koenig had secretly wed. The confusion partly stemmed from Koenig often referring to Jones as his wife.

However, Jones clarified that they are not legally married.

“Oh, we’re not married. We just kind of call each other that,” she explained. “But we are what we are, in the eyes of God!”

Koenig, who is 40, had previously provided a similarly cryptic response in an April interview with People. Asked to clarify their marital status, he described their relationship as being “married in the eyes of God.”

The couple shares a 5-year-old son named Isaiah. Jones mentioned that she is not opposed to the idea of getting legally married in the future, much like her own parents did. Her parents, music legend Quincy Jones and the late actress-model Peggy Lipton, tied the knot six months after her sister Kidada was born.

“My parents only got married when my dad had his first brain aneurysm and my sister was six months old, because of rights stuff,” she continued. “I’m sure we’ll get married at some point, but we basically are.”

Despite not being legally married, Jones has embraced the role of being a “wife” in some aspects. When asked if she sees herself as a “rock-star girlfriend,” Jones dismissed the traditional rock-star girlfriend lifestyle.

“Like, vintage fur coats and bus life? No. Too old for bus life. But I’m extremely proud,” she said. “He takes a very long time to make his albums, which is so lucky for me, because it means he’s home a lot of the time. This is our second tour cycle really, so we’ll see how far I go with rock wife.”

The actress seems content with her current situation, balancing her professional and personal life. Jones’ comments shed light on the flexibility and unique dynamics of modern relationships, where traditional labels aren’t always necessary to define a strong bond.

While the future remains open for a potential legal union, it’s evident that Jones and Koenig are committed to each other and their family. Their relationship continues to flourish, showcasing that love doesn’t always need a paper certificate to be genuine.
