Ravens’ Mark Andrews Set to Play After ‘Scary’ Car Accident

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Mark Andrews, the tight end for the Baltimore Ravens, has made a significant return to the practice field just 16 days after experiencing a harrowing car accident. He has expressed his eagerness to participate in the season opener set for September 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the reigning two-time Super Bowl champions.

After a Friday practice session, Andrews shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I feel really good. I’m excited. I’m excited for this game. It’s a big game.” His positive outlook is a welcome sign for fans and teammates alike.

Details surrounding the accident that took place on August 14 have emerged, revealing that Andrews was en route to the Ravens’ training facility when the incident occurred. Baltimore County police reported that two vehicles were involved, both sustaining significant damage.

Remarkably, Andrews made a surprising appearance at a team meeting only an hour after the accident, leaving many at the facility astonished. “It was definitely a serious thing, and for me, it puts things in perspective of tell the people that you’re around that you love them and wear your seatbelt,” he reflected. “You never know what’s going to happen on the road.” He conveyed his sense of gratitude by stating, “I’m very blessed and fortunate.”

While he refrained from sharing specific details about the accident, indicating that “there’s still stuff going on with insurance,” his resilience shines through in his statements.

Last week, Ravens coach John Harbaugh downplayed the significance of Andrews’s absence from practice, calling it a “very minor thing.” However, Andrews clarified that his practice time missed was not due to any injuries from the accident, emphasizing, “I feel good. I’m ready to move forward from everything that happened. And yeah, my body feels great.”

At 28 years old, Andrews is not alone in facing challenges from car accidents this summer, as two other Ravens players, Kyle Van Noy and Josh Ross, have also been involved in similar incidents.

Andrews boasts a stellar career, having made three Pro Bowl appearances and ranking among the top three in franchise history for receptions (381), receiving yards (4,857), and touchdown catches (40). He is just two touchdown receptions away from surpassing Todd Heap to become the all-time leader in touchdowns for the Ravens.

Reflecting on his experiences, Andrews noted, “I’ve always had that mindset of being resilient moving forward and you can’t take things for granted. And I think for me, that [car accident] definitely showed me that.” His journey back to full readiness not only speaks to his determination but also serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life.
