Ravens’ Ronnie Stanley Frustrated by Numerous Penalties Against Him

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – During the Baltimore Ravens’ 27-20 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, left tackle Ronnie Stanley felt that officials were unfairly targeting him with penalties.

Stanley was assessed three illegal formation penalties, with the first occurring just two plays into the game, and he reported that he had no prior warning from the officials.

“I thought it was a little strange,” Stanley remarked. “As the game progressed, it really seemed like they were trying to make an example of me. I noticed that these calls were not being applied consistently across both teams. I was confident I was lined up correctly for most of those calls. We’ll review the film and address it with the league office.”

Following the game, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh noted that the league had informed teams prior to the season that illegal formation penalties would be more strictly enforced. However, during the game, Baltimore was penalized five times for illegal formation, while the Chiefs were not penalized at all.

“I looked closely at their tackles, specifically on the right side,” Stanley said, expressing his frustration. “I was lining up directly across from that player, yet there were no penalties called on him. It makes me question my own understanding of my positioning. It’s critical for accountability—if they believe these calls were warranted, then they need to face some scrutiny.”

Last season, Stanley was flagged 11 times but did not receive any penalties for illegal formation. Aside from Stanley, offensive tackle Patrick Mekari and wide receiver Rashod Bateman also faced penalties for the same violation on Thursday night.

Harbaugh added, “It will be interesting to see if they maintain this level of enforcement throughout the whole season. I hope they adhere to this standard consistently, as I’d like to see the same approach carry over in future games.”
