Rebirth Casts Black Summer Star

Jurassic World: Rebirth has announced the addition of Bechir Sylvain from Black Summer to its upcoming blockbuster cast. Just a day ago, Universal unveiled the first look at their return to the dinosaur-filled universe. Featured prominently in the first look photos were Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, giving fans a tease before the trailer’s release. Gareth Edwards, known for his work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is set to direct this new chapter in the beloved franchise. For Edwards, this project is a dream come true.

Edwards shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film, and this is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in. I love Jurassic Park. I think the first movie is a cinematic masterpiece. So, this opportunity is like a dream to me and to work with Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who’s writing that script, I think they’re all legends. So, I’m just very excited.”

Universal describes the upcoming sequel as an action-packed adventure led by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, breakthrough talent Jonathan Bailey, and two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. This chapter follows an intrepid team racing to secure DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air. The film also stars acclaimed international talents Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Gareth Edwards directs from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

The plot picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. Dinosaurs now exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates similar to their original habitats, as the planet’s ecology proves largely inhospitable to them. The three largest creatures within this tropical biosphere are key to discovering a drug with miraculous life-saving benefits for humankind. Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett, a skilled covert operations expert, is contracted to lead a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from these massive dinosaurs.

During Zora’s mission, her team encounters a civilian family whose boating expedition is disrupted by marauding aquatic dinosaurs, leaving them stranded on an island. There, they come face-to-face with a shocking and sinister discovery hidden from the world for decades.

Mahershala Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team leader. Emmy nominee and Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey appears as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, while Emmy nominee Rupert Friend plays Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars as Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family. The film’s diverse cast also includes Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda as Reuben’s family members. Members of Zora and Krebs’ crews include Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.
