Red Bull Salzburg hilariously celebrates Stefan Bajcetic signing from Liverpool

Liverpool’s connection with Red Bull Salzburg has grown remarkably stronger in recent months, to the extent that the Austrian club humorously suggested they might turn into “the Reds” within three years.

Salzburg is embarking on a new chapter under head coach Pep Lijnders, who joined the club this summer after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season. Lijnders, previously Jurgen Klopp’s assistant, sought a head coach position and has stayed close to familiar grounds in the transfer market.

One of Lijnders’ key desires was to work with Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark. Consequently, the Reds facilitated Clark’s $13 million move to Salzburg. Additionally, on transfer deadline day, Salzburg secured another Liverpool asset, midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, on a loan deal.

With multiple figures from Klopp’s final season now at Salzburg, the club’s official X account poked fun at their transfer activities. They shared an image of Liverpool’s lineup for the 2019 Champions League final, where the Reds defeated Tottenham 2-0, and captioned it: “Us by 2027.”

The post quickly gained traction, receiving 10,000 likes and 500,000 views within just two hours. There has been considerable interaction between the two clubs this summer, even though this is their first direct business transaction since the 2019/20 season.

Back in the 2019/20 season, Liverpool signed Japanese midfielder Takumi Minamino for $9.5 million after his impressive performance during the Champions League group stages at Anfield. The bond between Liverpool and the Red Bull franchises, however, has been strong for several years.

Mane, originally purchased from Salzburg by Southampton, eventually made a significant move to Liverpool. Between 2014 and 2017, Liverpool signed six players directly from Southampton, showcasing a pattern of acquiring talent from the south of England.

In 2014, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, and Rickie Lambert joined Liverpool from Southampton. The next year saw the arrival of Nathaniel Clyne, followed by Mane and Virgil van Dijk in subsequent years.
