Are you always on the lookout for your next must-watch drama? If so, “Dead and Buried,” a new psychological thriller from the BBC, might be just what you’re seeking. The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Annabel Scholey from “The Split,” Colin Morgan from “Merlin,” Niamh Walsh from “The Sandman,” Joanne Crawford from “Blue Lights,” and Waj Ali from “Carnival Row.”
The official storyline introduces viewers to Cathy McDaid, a young mother who encounters Michael McAllister, the man who killed her brother Terry 20 years earlier. To her shock, Cathy learns from her solicitor that Michael has been out of prison for years and is living in the same town.
Unable to accept that Michael is now a free man, Cathy delves into his life through social media. She discovers that he has carved out a successful career and family life while she has been stuck grieving for her brother.
Against her best friend Sally Bowman’s advice, Cathy creates an online alias to befriend Michael, starting a secret relationship filled with deceit. Her desire for revenge blurs the lines between reality and her dark fantasies, escalating into psychological warfare aimed at destroying Michael’s life.
As Cathy’s obsession deepens, the series follows her unsettling journey and the catastrophic effects on both of their lives. Viewers will be pulled into a narrative that explores the lengths she will go to avenge her brother’s death.
Writer Colin Bateman shared his thoughts on the series with the BBC, stating, “Dead and Buried will intrigue the audience as they navigate through multiple red herrings, questioning whether Cathy is being truthful or if Michael is genuinely reformed or still capable of violence.”
Director Laura Way added, “While ‘Dead and Buried’ entertains and captivates, Colin’s script delves deeper into issues unique to Northern Ireland and its border counties, addressing themes of cyclical violence and forgiveness, adding layers to the typical thriller format.”
The series was filmed in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, adding authenticity to its backdrop. “Dead and Buried” is set to be released starting Monday, September 2. Enjoy!
