Jon “Stugotz” Weiner, long-time partner of Dan Le Batard at WAXY in Miami and ESPN, is guest hosting on Boomer & Gio this week on WFAN. He’s seizing this moment to push to be hired by the station after declining the program director position earlier this year.

With Boomer Esiason away, Stugotz is back at his hometown station and aiming high. True to his iconic style, it’s hard to discern where his jokes end and genuine ambitions begin. However, Stugotz, a 51-year-old native of Long Island, has made his desire to join The Fan clear.

“If any shakeups occur, Chris Oliviera (WFAN program director) will get a call from me,” Stugotz declared. “I’m in a contract year. I have one contract left where I want to be on air. So, to the decision-makers at WFAN, this is your last opportunity to get me.”

Stugotz elaborated that his contract with Meadowlark Media, where he co-hosts The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, expires early next year. He intends to sign for a few more years beyond that before retiring.

“If WFAN wants a storybook ending, if they want to bring me home to New York to fulfill my dream of being a full-time host there, this is the last chance,” he emphasized.

Later, a caller named Phil from Staten Island accused Stugotz of targeting the jobs of other WFAN employees. In response, Stugotz mentioned he would be happy to become a third full-time host on an existing show.

“I’m not trying to take anyone’s job,” Stugotz clarified. “Hosts from every other station in America want jobs here at WFAN… I’m just the one saying it out loud.”

Earlier this year, during an Awful Announcing podcast, Stugotz opened up about the program director role, eventually awarded to Oliviera. He admitted he was genuinely interested but withdrew when he realized it offered fewer on-air opportunities and lower pay.

It seems likely that if any opportunity arises at WFAN, Stugotz will be a strong candidate for his desired “storybook ending.”
