Richard Gere’s wife, Alejandra Gere, recently revealed a significant family achievement that has been in the making for quite some time. Alejandra, 41, took to Instagram to share that her family had been deeply involved in a new project during the pandemic, which has now borne fruit, quite literally.
The publicist posted a photo of herself in a lush vegetable patch, harvesting an impressive array of crops. The picture showcased a variety of vegetables, including radishes, purple yams, and red onions.
In her caption, Alejandra wrote, “During the pandemic, we invested our time to create this incredible vegetable garden! We did it all together as a family! #vegetables #huerto #family #openarms.”
The pandemic prompted many to stay home more frequently, and Alejandra, Richard, and their young children used this time to bond over gardening. Their hard work has resulted in a bountiful harvest and a fulfilling, year-round hobby.
Alejandra tagged New York in her post, indicating that the couple undertook this project on their 35-acre New York estate, which they had quietly relocated to a few years back.
Richard and Alejandra share two children, five-year-old Alexander and a four-year-old son. Though the couple maintains a low profile, Alejandra occasionally shares glimpses of their family life on Instagram, often obscuring their children’s faces for privacy.
In more recent news, the family is set to make a permanent move to Spain this autumn. They hope to be closer to Alejandra’s family in Madrid.
Richard commented on the move, saying, “[Alejandra] was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it’s only fair that I give her at least another six years living in hers.”
This will mark Richard’s first experience living outside the United States full-time. He described it as a “great adventure” and expressed excitement about how it would enrich their children’s lives.
“It is a beautiful place, the food is extraordinary, and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as an iron will to laugh and enjoy. So I’m looking forward to going there,” he shared in an interview with Vanity Fair Spain.
Richard also shares an older son named Homer with his ex-wife, Carey Lowell. Homer is currently studying cognitive neuroscience and visual art at Brown University and has shown an interest in acting. Recently, he started writing and directing “little movies,” much to Richard’s delight. “He has suddenly become interested and seems to enjoy it,” Richard explained.
