Richard Simmons’ Cause of Death Revealed by Brother

Richard Simmons’ cause of death remains officially deferred, but his brother Lenny has shared details about the fitness guru’s passing. Family spokesperson Tom Estey revealed to People in a statement that the coroner informed Lenny of Richard’s accidental death due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. Simmons’ toxicology report was negative for any drugs other than his prescribed medication.

The Los Angeles medical examiner’s office has not confirmed these details and stated that Simmons’ cause of death and autopsy report are still not finalized. Lenny spoke about his brother’s death after the famed fitness personality, known for his vibrant energy and dazzling outfits, passed away on July 13, just a day after he celebrated his 76th birthday.

Lenny seemingly corroborated reports that Simmons died after a fall in his Los Angeles home. TMZ had previously reported that Simmons’ housekeeper urged him to seek medical attention following the fall, but Simmons dismissed the suggestion. His body was discovered at his residence, and at that time, sources indicated to The Times that there was no sign of foul play.

The L.A. County coroner’s database still lists Simmons’ cause of death as “deferred,” with his body having been released on July 17. Simmons was laid to rest at the Pierce Bros. Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary a week following his passing, as reported by TMZ, which cited the death certificate.

In the wake of this sad news, Estey, who had represented Simmons for over 30 years, conveyed the family’s gratitude for the support they have received. “The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss,” Estey added.
