Before his 76th birthday, Richard expressed immense gratitude to his supporters. He planned to spend his special day focusing on their needs. Richard was working on a Broadway show about his life, having written 14 songs for the production.

The show aimed to highlight his journey from a young boy in New Orleans to fitness stardom. Although Richard couldn’t fulfill this dream, he left behind an impressive legacy with his Sweatin’ to the Oldies tapes and multiple published works such as the Farewell To Fat Cookbook and the Richard Simmons Never Say Diet Book.
