‘Ride or Die’ Hits $200 Million at International Box Office

Audiences around the globe have continued to be drawn to the Bad Boys franchise, with its latest installment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, performing exceptionally well at the international box office. This weekend, the fourth film in the series crossed the $200 million mark globally. The movie sees the return of stars Will Smith (I Am Legend) and Martin Lawrence (Martin).

Bad Boys: Ride or Die has had significant success in various international markets. Notably, it became the highest-grossing film of all time in Saudi Arabia, surpassing Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. To date, the film has earned $23 million in Saudi Arabia, with Mexico and the United Kingdom following closely with earnings of $15.6 million and $15.2 million, respectively.

The cumulative global earnings (combining domestic and international figures) for Bad Boys: Ride or Die currently stand at $395.2 million. This total is about $100 million less than its predecessor, Bad Boys for Life. However, despite the difference, Ride or Die has propelled the Bad Boys franchise past the billion-dollar mark globally—a notable achievement given the franchise’s longevity and nature. The earlier films in the series were released in 1995 and 2003. Ride or Die also had the advantage of being among the few major summer action releases until Deadpool & Wolverine was released this past weekend.

The Bad Boys films follow the adventures of Detective Lieutenant Michael Eugene ‘Mike’ Lowrey (Smith) and Detective Lieutenant Marcus Miles Burnett (Lawrence), two Miami detectives committed to keeping the city and their families safe. Their unconventional methods often draw criticism, particularly from their captain, Conrad (Joe Pantoliano). Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the fourth entry in the franchise, following 2020’s Bad Boys for Life.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die was directed by the duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, known collectively as Adil & Billal. The two had also directed the previous Bad Boys film and gained attention for their work with Marvel, including two episodes of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Additionally, the pair were recognized for the canceled DC film Batgirl. Their direction has been praised for its quick-action style, which has greatly complemented the Bad Boys series.

Currently, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is playing in theaters and is available for rent on VOD.
