‘Right People, Wrong Place’ to Premiere at Busan Film Fest

BTS continues to delight fans even during their mandatory military enlistment, this time through a new documentary focusing on the group’s leader, RM.

The documentary, titled RM: Right People, Wrong Place, is set to premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. Invited to the festival’s Open Cinema section, the film chronicles the making of RM’s second solo album Right Place, Wrong Person.

CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of Korean conglomerate CJ Group, along with BTS’ label Hybe, announced the news on Tuesday.

“It is a great honor for RM: Right People, Wrong Place to be the first documentary film focusing on a K-pop artist officially selected for the Busan International Film Festival’s large-scale outdoor premiere,” stated Hybe Media Studio’s GM Gyewon Suh. “The film provides an honest portrayal of RM, and with director Lee Seokjun’s unique visual style, we’ve crafted a truly unconventional yet exceptional work. We hope the film resonates deeply with the audience.”

The documentary “explores the candid journey of BTS’ leader RM as he navigates the complexities of being a global superstar,” as described in a release. It offers fans a glimpse into the eight months leading up to RM’s enlistment in the Korean military.

RM, whose real name is Kim Namjoon, enlisted in Korea’s military late last year. Currently, seven out of the eight members of BTS are serving in the military.

Directed by Lee Seokjun and produced by Hybe, RM: Right People, Wrong Place will have a global theatrical release later this year, as announced in a release. Lee Seokjun is known for having produced music videos for J-Hope, another BTS member.

“We are delighted to announce the global theatrical release of the BTS RM documentary, RM: Right People, Wrong Place, in collaboration with Hybe and BigHit Music, building on the success of our previous partnership for BTS: Yet to Come in Cinemas,” said CJ 4DPLEX’s CEO Joon Beom Sim.

RM and his fellow group members were spotted welcoming BTS’ eldest member, Jin, as he was discharged from his military service earlier this summer. Meanwhile, BTS members Jimin and Jungkook are the stars of a newly released Disney+ show Are You Sure?!, which was filmed in 2023 before the singers enlisted. The eight-episode travel series will run through Sept. 19.
