Ritch Henderson Reveals Raw, Honest Tracks on ‘Alive In Alabama’ Sophomore Album

If you took a glance at this week’s Country New Music Friday cover and didn’t recognize the artist, it’s time to get familiar. Ritch Henderson is one of many rising talents from Alabama, joining the ranks of other remarkable independent artists. A true road warrior, Henderson travels across the nation, showcasing his exceptional songwriting skills.

Henderson’s journey hasn’t been easy. After serving in our nation’s Marine Corps and experiencing the turmoil of Afghanistan, he battled PTSD, which led him to unhealthy coping mechanisms. However, music became a vital outlet. His 2023 debut album, Fallacies and Four-Word Letters, catapulted him into the spotlight. He toured with well-known acts like 49 Winchester, Drayton Farley, Alro McKinney, and others, earning his place in the industry with his unique sound.

Earlier this week, Henderson released his second record, Alive In Alabama. In a heartfelt announcement, he shared, “Y’all know I don’t like to string you along with marketing inundation and dangling carrots on a string for months on end. I take our connection seriously and value your time tremendously.” He continued, “My band and I made a new record titled ‘Alive in Alabama’ it will be available everywhere tonight at midnight. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to create and release my art in a way that doesn’t compromise my values. Myself and my entire team are eternally grateful. I hope y’all love it as much as we do. We really enjoyed making this one. For the people, by the people, baby.”

This new collection of 10 songs not only continues the sound established on his debut record but also showcases his growth as a songwriter. The tracks delve into heartbreak reflecting the poverty-stricken region Henderson hails from, while also exploring themes of love, loss, and the devastating impact of the opioid and methamphetamine epidemic.

“Same Size Hole” is a standout track that encompasses many of these themes. The lyrics tell stories of those caught in the cycle of addiction, emphasizing that addiction doesn’t discriminate based on socioeconomic class. The dark and haunting melody perfectly complements the somber lyrics:

“Never a lived a day of life

Worried about the bills

The thirst for confrontation

Doubles with the pills

We all go in the same size hole..”

This track is just one example of how each song on the album tells a complete and compelling story. If you haven’t already familiarized yourself with Ritch Henderson, now is the perfect time to do so.
