Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones Reunite for Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special

Rob Brydon shared a heartfelt selfie with his Gavin & Stacey co-star, Ruth Jones, marking the start of filming for the much-anticipated Christmas special of the beloved sitcom.

Back in May, Jones and co-creator James Corden confirmed that the show would make a return for one final festive episode, set to premiere on Christmas Day. This news has stirred excitement and nostalgia among fans eager to see their favorite characters back on screen.

According to The Sun, filming commenced earlier this week in Barry, Wales. Brydon, known for his role as Stacey’s earnest Uncle Bryn, shared a sneak peek of the reunion by posting a picture of himself with Jones, who portrays the character Nessa. The photo showed the pair, friends since secondary school, smiling warmly at the camera.

The 59-year-old actor and comedian kept fans guessing with his cryptic caption, “Something’s occurring.” This has led to a flurry of fan predictions on social media. One Instagram user humorously commented, “please God, let Uncle Bryn have an air fryer,” while another pondered, “Will [we] finally find out what happened on that fishing trip?”

Speaking to The Independent earlier this year, Brydon revealed he had been aware of the plans for the show’s return long before the official announcement. However, he and his castmates had to keep it under wraps because the production details were not yet finalized. “When I stop and think about how long it’s been, it’s quite hard to get your head around,” he shared. “There’s certainly not a week where somebody doesn’t come up and tell me how much they love it, or call me Bryn, or ask me what happened on the fishing trip.”

Brydon also mentioned that he was “moved to tears” while reading the new script to his wife, highlighting the emotional weight and anticipation surrounding the show’s return.

James Corden, who recently wrapped up a performance run in The Constituent at the Old Vic in London, revealed his commitment to the special by planning to stay in Barry for “seven weeks” for filming.

Gavin & Stacey originally aired from 2007 to 2010 and made a successful return for a Christmas special in 2019, which broke BBC viewing records. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see what new adventures and heartwarming moments will unfold in this upcoming festive episode.

This long-awaited reunion promises to bring joy to the sitcom’s dedicated fanbase, who have long cherished the quirky and relatable characters of the series. As the holiday season approaches, this special episode is set to be a highlight, bringing festive cheer and some long-awaited answers to the show’s enduring mysteries.
